Bank of Hawaii Checks

You’ll be saying “Aloha!” too when you finally reorder a set of Bank of Hawaii checks to replace your boring old ones. After all, the BoH doesn’t only serve residents of Hawaii, but has expanded into the other states of the US of A as well. You might have more than a checking account open at your nearest branch, but if you find yourself writing checks often, a nice checkbook can be a valuable thing to have.

Your checkbooks can even be customized past the usual design motif on the checks. Besides the checkbooks, the accessories that come with it can even be personalized to your liking! Stamp out a checkbook cover with your personal emblem, or with the Bank of Hawaii emblem. Since your transaction registers are also made out of paper, you can give them the same treatment as your checks themselves, too!

The Bank of Hawaii

Hawaii’s second oldest bank is also the largest family-owned bank in the entire state. They hold the vast majority of customers, accounts and ATMs in the entire state of Hawaii, and offer plenty of services to clients past checking accounts. If you live in Hawaii, then chances are you probably have an account open here!

The Bank of Hawaii opened its doors in 1893, and was chartered in 1897. After its official chartering and opening, the bank established its very first branch in Kauai. They made a notable acquisition of the First Bank of Hilo, allowing them to open four more branches around the Hawaii region.

In 1930, it merged with the Bank of Maui. This particular bank first opened as the Lahaina National Bank. In 1913, the very same founders of this bank opened the First National Bank of Paia. Lahaina and Paia merged into the Bank of Maui, which was then assimilated by Bank of Hawaii in 1930.

The Bank of Hawaii also expanded farther into the Pacific. Opening their doors in Kwajalein, Guam and Palau by the 1960s, the bank saw much success past US shores. Their assimilation of the Bank of American Samoa also allowed them to dominate the Pacific Islands, and gave them a leg up over other financial establishments who had not put up branches in these territories.

By the 1980s, Bank of Hawaii had branches open as far as Tokyo, Japan. The 90’s saw even more expansion, as BoH opened its doors in the island of Suva in Fiji. Around this time, Bank of Hawaii was known as Bancorp Hawaii, but changed their name to Pacific Century Financial Corporation in 1997.

By the end of the 1990’s, Bank of Hawaii opened up branches in California and Tahiti. Today, this bank remains to be the largest locally-owned bank in the state, with the majority stockholders residing right in Hawaii itself. While a competing bank owns more assets in deposits, BoH boasts the most branches, ATMs and returning clients than any other financial institution in the whole state.
